Why Choose Local?
At the heart of our restaurant is a passion for supporting our community and showcasing the incredible produce Devon has to offer. We’ve hand-selected our trusted local suppliers — from the freshest fish and finest meats to vibrant seasonal vegetables, indulgent desserts, and expertly crafted drinks, including coffee, spirits, beer, wine, and soft drinks — all proudly made right here in Devon. By sourcing locally, we not only celebrate the exceptional quality and flavour of our region, but also help sustain local farmers, producers, and artisans. Every dish and drink we serve tells a story of Devon’s rich landscape and hardworking people — keeping our community thriving, one plate at a time.
Family History
Roy’s journey began back in 1971, at just 14 years old, when he first started frying at his sister and brother-in-law’s fish and chip shop. From those early days, his passion for great fish and chips only grew. Over the years, Roy continued frying in various establishments, and in 1982, he and his wife Louise opened their very own shop — The London Fryer — which quickly became the heart of their business.
While Roy and Louise also ran other popular spots like Abbots Fryer, St. Michael’s Fryer, and The Regency Restaurant, it’s The London Fryer that has remained at the core of their story. It’s been a true family affair ever since. Across generations, every member of the family has played a role — and today, the shop is still proudly run by Roy, Louise, and their children Carl, Becky, and Katy, along with their partners Vanessa, Sean, and Neil.
Now, Roy’s next adventure is welcoming you to our family run restaurant. Our commitment to quality, sustainability, and supporting local suppliers is stronger than ever. Whether you’re here for a local fish and chips or trying something new from our expanded menu, you can always count on food that’s fresh, responsibly sourced, and made with care.
